Resisting... a little bit...

Well, the planning is well under way for my winter/spring training and racing schedule. I'm running the 30k Around the Bay road race in Hamilton, the oldest road race in North America. I'm looking forward to it and even though I have sights set at a spring marathon, I might as well consider this one of my A races. It's set for March 30th.

Today was a rest day but I went out for a 3 mile run, followed by a little bit of upper body work with resistance bands. I really stayed away from cross training in the summer but I think it's time I work on other parts of my training. The first thing to target is a strong core and arm/chest strength. I figure it'll help a little with arm movement and posture. I'm going to incorporate this on non-running days and on weekends.

i was thinking of doing that race also next year. Cross training has been lacking for me also.

I am going to advocate swimming if you can mix it in. I have been swimming 5-6 thousand yards a week for only about six weeks and I am already noticing shoulder back arm and chest strength gains, plus it adds to my cardio base.
Sometimes up north a swim is nicer then a cold run.

i agree swimming would be the best kind of cross training you could do and it's gentle on your body.

Fran, you should do it! sounds like a fun race.

Bob (and R), I think i'll start looking into swimmiing. I haven't done that in years and I'd have to take refresher lessons.
